Kraftin' Kimmie Challenge #295 - Fall

Greetings krafty friends!
Hope you had an amazing week and are ready for some
weekend fun! I am hoping my weekend is much better than the
latter part of my week as I unfortunately had a very freaky thing
happen to me.  WARNING: this might gross some of you out
my apologies in advance for that.   I got a nosebleed that wouldn't
stop.  This was only the second time in my whole life that
I've had a nosebleed.  I ended up in the Urgent Care clinic
for a couple hours.  Had 3 rounds of cauterization (OUCH!!!!)
that didn't take so had to have a tampon like device
crammed into my nostril for 24 hours.   I missed 3 days of work
at a time when I couldn't really afford to miss and was knocked
flat. I had to keep down and still for most of the 24 hours and another
half a day after that. It was a scary and frustrating time.
I fear that my nose will never be the same again (my nostril is still
HUGE and the inside is pure black) there's still a little
bleeding off and on and I'm still a little woozy.
I'm tellin' you it has been such a BUMMER - and not a situation
that I hope I ever have to repeat!

Anyway...I'm guessin' you are really here to see my latest
creation for the newest Saturday challenge at
KRAFTIN' KIMMIE  and not my belly-achin'
(but thanks for listening :o) ).

It's the last Saturday of August 2015, kids are back to school
and soon it will be Fall so our theme this week for
KK Challenge #295 is FALL!
I made this card a little bit ago for a magazine call
but it wasn't selected so I get to share it with you today

This is Lexi from the stamp set called "Hey There Punkin"
This is one of my favorite stamp sets to use for fall.
I particularly love this one because of the pie.
Pie is my favorite part of Thanksgiving :o)

We have had so many forest fires all around us and the
air quality has been terrible for many many days in a row.
(probably why I got such a bad nosebleed).  Even though I
usually fully enjoy summer and LOVE fall, I'm actually
hoping for an early snowfall to help with all the fires.

Okay...so enough from me today. Thanks for stopping by to visit!
Please go see what the other Krafty Girls have made to share
with and inspire you to play along this week.  You could WIN
some krafty $ to spend in the store just for playing along.

Hey while you're over at the challenge blog don't forget to check
out the FRUGAL FRIDAY sales and there's a special
code to get an additional 10% off your order "INKY".

Til next time... hugs and happy kraftin'! D

Sketch Saturday #375 - Kenny K Downloads

Happy Saturday everyone!

It's time for another weekly challenge at Sketch Saturday,
and this week our sponsor is Kenny K Downloads.
The winner for this week will get 3 images of their choice from Kenny.

Here's this week's sketch #375

My card using one of the sponsor digital images "Milk Shake"

I fussy-cut around the image after coloring it with my copics
and then stamped the hearts from 3 different stamp sets.
It makes me think of what my Mom and Dad might have looked
like while they were dating. Such a fun image!

I'd like to enter my card in the following challenges:
CAS-ual Fridays CFC142 - Pretty Patterns
(I hope the hearts that I have stamped count as a pattern)
If You Give a Crafter a Cookie - Cookie Challenge #25
My inspiration is the heart shapes and the "couple in love" aspect

bookmarks, pocket pages or traditional scrap pages.
Come play along with us each month and let's get some of those photo's
out of boxes and on to something creative and fun!!  This is a month long

for this month is son's graduation in 2012 (I told ya...I'm a tad behind).

It's a little hard to see all together so here is the left page

Kraftin' Kimmie - Wonderful Wednesday {Believe in Fairytales}

Hello sweet friends and followers.
I have the pleasure of hosting this week's
Wonderful Wednesday challenge at

The theme is always "anything goes" for Wonderful Wednesday
so that means you get a very wide range of options to choose from
- any theme, any stamp, any color combo, any size, any type of
creation (card, altered item, scrapbook page) - you get the idea:o)
It must be a NEW creation, however, and you have until
August 25th at midnight to enter!  You can enter as many times as you like.
At the end of the month one random winner will be chosen from
all the submissions for the whole month and will receive a $20 Gift Card
to use in the Kraftin' Kimmie shop! How cool is that?!

In addition to the great Krafty Challenges & Wonderful Wednesday, each month
we will post a Sketch.  The sketch will last all month long and if you use it
in ANY of our Challenges or WW's during that month you will get an
additional chance to win a store gift card!  You do NOT have to use the sketch,
it's just a little extra boost for your mojo if ya need it!  Here is August's sketch
(which I used above for my card below):

Here is my card to share with and inspire you this week:

My daughter and I had been talking about the movie "The Princess Bride"
recently and it inspired me to ink up this adorable and dashing knight
from the stamp set called "Believe in Fairytales".  If I lived in a fairy tale
world, I wouldn't mind at all being rescued by such a fella :o)!

I very seldom only use a couple colors on my creations but I saw the
the color combo over at Just Us Girls #306 - Red, Grey and Black
and decided that I needed to give it a go.  I'm glad I did as it worked
so perfectly with this stamp!  I used the copics C00, C01, C03, C05,
C07 and 100 (suit and sword) as well as R27, R29 (shield & helmet tuft).

I would also like to enter this card in the following challenges:
613 Avenue Create - challenge #137 "Anything Goes"
Crafting from the Heart Challenge #73 - Anything Goes

Thanks so much for stopping by to visit me today!
Til next time...hugs and happy kraftin'! D

Kraftin' Kimmie Krafty Tips and Tutes - Photo tutorial of bokeh technique (10 easy steps)

Hello krafty friends!
I'm happy you are here to visit me today as it's my turn to
present the Krafty Tips and Tutes.  I've chosen to make a
photo tutorial on the bokeh technique for you this week.

WARNING - this is very photo intensive as I've not had much luck
at all with videos of late. But it should be pretty easy to follow.
Additional warning - a couple of my photos are blurry
as I was trying to take the pic with my left hand while
still demonstrating the step with my right - LOL.
Boy did I miss my daughter that day for her help!!

Anyhoo..... first let me show you the finished card
and then I'll start into the steps on how to make it.
Stamp from "You're a Scream" by Kraftin' Kimmie

Products you need for this project are:
watercolor paper or glossy cardstock
paint brushes and water & papertowels
masking/stencil/painter's tape
watercolor paints or distress/regular ink refills
ink pads (distress or regular) and white craft (or StazOn)
circle template, sponges or sponge dauber,
solid circle stamp in a couple sizes
heat gun (preferable if you don't want to wait for project to dry)

Step One:
Start with a piece of watercolor paper.  You can also use
glossy cardstock but today I'm using watercolor paper.  I'm
using a panel sized 5 x 5 1/2" which I will trim down when I'm done.
It's really helpful to secure your paper to the surface you're
working on. I'm using painter's masking tape. The paper will
buckle a bit as you are coloring it so the tape helps to keep it flat
and in place.  You can put a piece of wax paper under your panel
to help with the watercolor seep-through that might occur
(if you're kind of messy like I am - LOL).

Step TWO:
Prepare your watercolor supplies.
I used 3 different shades of blue on my panel -
Pool Party, Baja Breeze and Island Indigo.
The amount of ink you use depends on how deep you
want the color to be on the panel.  Typically I use between
5 and 8 drops of ink one little well of this paint tray.

Step THREE:
Prepare your panel by using just clear water - give it a
good generous coating all over.

Step FOUR:
Now start adding your base color(s)

I first swoosh the lightest ink around and then go back
and swoosh in some more of the darker shade in just a few
areas. It's very subtle but does create more depth in the panel.

Step FIVE:
When you are happy with the base colors, dab it off with a
paper towel (see how messy I am :o) ? ).

Step SIX:
Using a solid circle stamp or two (or circle stencil) add
some darker spots to the panel.  Note:  I save the insides of my
stamps that have pop out middles for this - works great
as it's kind of hard to find solid circle stamps.

I first used a larger circle rubber stamp in a few areas on
the panel.  Because the paper is a bit dry the ink will appear
appear kind of dark so I will use the deeper shade of blue that
I made and softly blur the circle and shape and edges later.
Then I randomly stamped the smaller circle around the
panel to fill in the spaces a bit more and add depth to the base.

Then I take the lighter shade of blue and
give it a final wash-over to blur and blend the circles.

Step SEVEN:
Once again dab off with a paper towel and then if you
have a heat gun use it to dry the panel for the next steps.
Note: if you don't have a heat gun you will want to wait
about an hour before you start the next steps (longer if
you're using glossy cardstock).

Here's a photo of the different finishes you will get
with a watercolor panel (left) and glossy cardstock (right)

Step EIGHT:
Now we are going to add the bokeh effect dots
with white craft ink, a sponge dauber and a circle stencil.
I've made my own circle stencil using various sizes of
circle punches in a random pattern and a clear window
sheet from some product packaging.  You can also use the end
of a pencil eraser, a sponge dauber, or a circle stamp for this step.

Tip: I found it works best if you start at one end (corner or side)
and work away from it as you fill in the circles as craft ink
is pretty sticky and you can accidentally pick up the edges from the
one before and and mess up your pattern.

To create the bokeh effect you will fill in the different sizes of
circles around the panel. The larger circles should have less ink
on them and be a bit blurred as they are the farthest out of focus
and the smallest circles will have the most saturated color
(because they would be closest in the photo as spots of light).

Step NINE:
Craft ink is very sticky and takes a long time to dry
(even on watercolor paper) so I use a heat gun again (I'll
spare you that boring picture - hehe) to set the color again.
StazOn ink will dry much faster but I like the results I get with the craft ink.

When you've dried it you can take off your masking.
and you get something that looks like this

Step TEN:
If you've done a really good job of masking (or not been
really messy like me) you can trim the panel to leave a small
white edge around it.  I have taken the pane and trimmed it down
to 4" x 5 1/4" with my paper cutter to get this

Final Step(s):
Take your bokeh panel and add your images (or sentiments)
and adhere it to a mat and/or your card base to finish your project
like I did with the yellow cardstock.  Then add some other embellies
as you wish - such as the Doodlebug sprinkles (available in the
KK shop) and a wooden sentiment for extra pop to the project.
Ta Dah - DONE!!! Easy peasy - right ?

Thanks so much for sticking with me to see my tutorial.
I hope it was clear and easy to follow and that I've inspired
you to go get inky and give it a try too!
Til next time...hugs and happy kraftin'! D

Kraftin' Kimmie Challenge #293 "Back to School"

Hello krafty friends!
Are you ready for the weekend?  I'm usually ready
by Thursday and can hardly wait - LOL!
Yesterday it was 96 degrees and a bit humid (odd for Montana)
and then last night the sky opened up with the most amazing
lightning and thunder show I've seen in quite awhile.  This
was followed by the most gorgeous rainfall.  I stood on my front
porch for quite awhile and just reveled in the sound and smell of it!
Not sure what the weather will be today - but I'm hoping not as hot.

So I'm here today to share my latest creation for the
School starts here at the end of the month. Parents all over
are celebrating and kiddos are mourning this event :o)
Alexis is our hostess and she says that your creation
can be anything that reminds you of school. That's easy - right?!

My card today features the adorable Lulu from  "Smarty Pants" and
some fun papers from Doodlebug 6 x 6 paper pad called
"Back to School". The cute little glossy "School Sprinkles" are also
from Doodlebug. You can get all of these in the KK shop.

I'd like to enter this in the following challenges:

My Time to Craft #302 - Easel cards

Hello again sweet friends.
I'm back with another card for the newest
challenge at MY TIME TO CRAFT.

For the next two weeks we'd like to see your
easel cards and creations.  I love to make easel
cards but don't do it very often for some reason.
They really are super easy and are a nice change of pace.

Since this year seems to be going by so very fast,
I'm getting a jump on my halloween cards - take a look:

I really love sentiment only cards lately!  This sentiment in
the moon is one of several awesome fall/halloween sentiments
in a stamp set called "Spook-tacular Sentiments" by
Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps.  I used several die cuts - a circle, clouds,
and the fence.  Then I added those adorable "Scaredy Cat"  buttons.
The black cat has a lot of glitter on it which made it terribly
hard to photograph well.  There isn't anything wrong with
your eyes - trust me :o) and sorry about that. It almost makes
you feel a bit dizzy as you look at it - arrghh!!

Do you love fun buttons but struggle with putting them on your creations?
I sure did but I found this fabulous tool called a button shank remover
that easily snips off that pesky plastic loop on the back of  the
buttons so you can adhere them easier on your creations.
Now that I have this I can get lots more cute buttons!
(I got the buttons from the Kraftin' Kimmie Store).
The papers are by Doodlebug Design - LOVE them!

I'd like to enter this in the following challenges:
Stamping Sensations August challenge - Anything Goes w/a stamp & a die
Virginia's View Challenge #17 - All things Embellished (buttons)
Crafting from the Heart - Challenge 72 "Anything goes"

Please go visit the rest of the DT at Sketch Saturday and
see what they have made for your inspiration this fortnight.
Summer is busy but I sure hope you will find time to join us too.

Thanks for visiting me...til next time...hugs! D

Hello sweet friends - happy weeeeeekkkkkennnnd!
August is just moving right along - we are already

This is a great sketch for those who love a clean
style but still like layers too (I'm one of those people).

Sketch Saturday gals - please pop on over to see
their lovely creations too!!

Thanks so much for stopping by to visit me today!
